Everything Alpaca

Socks, beanies, gloves, ... they all make for a year-round wonderful, fair trade, handmade gift for any occasion.

Alpaca wool is perfect for year round wear. Whether you have alpaca socks, gloves, hand-warmers or beanies, they have a warmth that is warmer than wool without the itch of wool. In hot climates, the breathable properties of alpaca wool works to wick moisture away to help regulate body temperature.

There are two ways to wash alpaca products - hand washing and machine washing.

If hand washing, use cool water with a mild soap such as a mild shampoo.
No bleach. Wash gently; don't scrub with a brush. Soak in soapy water for a few minutes, then rinse with cold water. Alpaca is very fragile when wet, so do not wring or twist the wool. You can lay it flat on top of a towel to dry, or place in a pillowcase or a laundry bag to air dry.

If machine washing, use a mild detergent. Turn socks and beanies inside out. Machine wash in cold water. Do not use the hand wash cycle; use the wool cycle if available. You may place the socks inside a mesh laundry bag to reduce agitation. Lay flat to dry.

Make sure the socks are fully dry before storing them. Moths are alpaca wool’s greatest enemy. You may use cedar chips and sachets of dried lavender to repel them.

Most of our alpaca items have some acrylic content in them. Womens and Mens alpaca socks, and alpaca beanies all have some degree of acrylic content in them which makes it easy to machine wash them without any detriment to the yarn.

For our 100% baby alpaca gloves and hand-warmers, we definitely suggest hand-washing.

Either way, you can enjoy the softness and warmth of alpaca wool with peace of mind. Follow the simple care directions above and enjoy the luxury of alpaca for years to come!
