Mysore Sandalwood Soap

Mysore Sandal Soap is made with 100% pure sandalwood oil, according to its manufacturer, Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL). Its distinctive sandalwood fragrance and long history have made it a classic of Indian bath and body care.

In 1916, Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore, established the Government Soap Factory in Bangalore. During the First World War, sandalwood from the Mysore Kingdom could not be exported to Europe, so the factory began using the region’s abundant sandalwood resources to make soap.

In 1980, Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited was formed by combining the Government Soap Factory with sandalwood oil factories in Shimoga and Mysore. Today, KSDL holds the geographical indication registration for Mysore Sandal Soap, protecting the product’s name and its association with its place of origin.
