The Kingdom of Eswatini is also known by its former official name Swaziland. It is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. At no more than 200 km (120 mi) north to south and 130 km (81 mi) east to west, Eswatini is one of the smallest countries in Africa.
These tipsy tumblers are made at the Ngwenya Glass Factory. Founded in 1979, the factory now employs more than 70 workers. The reason why Ngwenya Glass is so special is that only recycled glass is used – mainly old cool drink bottles, – and that each and every piece is totally handmade and mouth blown. People from all over Eswatini collect bottles and are paid per kilo for clean glass. Ngwenya Glass also launched the Kingdom’s most successful wildlife conservation fund to date. Known as the Ngwenya Glass Rhino and Elephant Fund, its proceeds go directly to saving these rare and endangered animals which have been saved from the brink of extinction for a second time in the recent history of Swaziland / Eswatini. A percentage of Ngwenya Glass’ sales worldwide are donated to this Fund.
