Traditional papier-mâché boxes from Kashmir.
These boxes feel like they are made from a lightweight wood, but they are constructed from layers of paper and lacquer. Each is hand-painted using traditional motifs, such as chennar (maple) leaves gulmohur flowers.
Being intricately hand-painted, each is a work of art, and literally one-of-a-kind.
As a child I remember being fascinated by the one my aunt, Gullu fui, had on her dressing table. It held talcum powder and a soft powder puff.
Handmade in India.
