Handwoven by a collective of more than 100 Wolof women in rural Senegal, West Africa, from cattail stalks and salvaged plastic strips used to make mats. Cattails grow abundantly in rural Senegal, so women can earn a sustainable income from basket weaving. The natural grass baskets are often embellished with colorful strips of plastic salvaged from a nearby mat factory.
