Our collaboration with The Shop has led us to some new clothing in two fabrics with very different stories: Cotton Slub and Chanderi.
Cotton Slub
Look closely at cotton slub and you’ll notice that it isn’t perfectly smooth. The yarn has subtle variations in thickness, creating the little bumps and irregularities that give the fabric its texture.
Interestingly, those irregularities were once considered flaws. Today, they are intentionally incorporated into the weave for its characteristic texture.
Cotton slub is lightweight, breathable, and easy to wear. It softens with washing and, like most cotton clothing, doesn’t need much fuss. Wash in cool or warm water with a mild detergent and avoid high heat when drying.

Chanderi
Chanderi fabric takes its name from the town of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh, where weaving has been part of the local tradition for centuries. Traditional Chanderi is woven with silk and cotton, giving it its unusual combination of lightness, transparency, and a gentle sheen. Fine Chanderi was once associated with royalty and court dress, and the weaving tradition has been passed down through generations.
Today, Chanderi is still woven in cotton, silk, and cotton-silk combinations. It is wonderfully light and airy, but that delicacy means it deserves a little extra care.
For our Chanderi clothing, hand wash gently in cool water, never wring, and dry in the shade. For pieces containing silk or delicate embellishment, dry cleaning is the safer choice.
Two fabrics, two very different histories. And both are a good reminder that the fabric itself can be part of the story of a piece of clothing.
