Please note: only Pomegranate are currently available. Maybe one or two in some of the other styles. I will update the inventory as we get more. These are increasingly difficult to find, so we may not get more.
Individually hand-carved wooden sweets moulds, typically used to shape the traditional Bengali sweets, sondesh. These are sadly increasingly being replaced by silicone moulds which are more practical for sondesh street vendors. These hand-carved wooden moulds are treasures, more as miniature pieces of art, ... little symbols reminiscent of a time when things were made with quality and care.
The moulds are carved in assorted shapes and patterns. The most common motifs are conch shells, dimpled pomegranates, mangoes, fish, flowers, leaves, hearts, clubs, spades, and diyas (clay oil lamps), all of which are symbols of good wishes, luck, and prosperity.
Each mould is approximately 2" wide.
Please note, the price is for ONE hand-carved single mould (not sold as a pair or a set).
Hand-carved in Calcutta, India.
