Antique hand-carved teak alcove panels from Nepal and northern India, dating to the early 1900s. Each is one of a kind, salvaged from traditional homes where pieces like these were part of everyday devotional life.

In Nepali and north Indian homes, a small carved alcove panel would be hung on the wall, and fresh flowers or a tiny deity statuette placed in the arch of the panel; a simple, beautiful way of making a corner of the home sacred. The arch frames whatever is placed within it, turning a keepsake, a small figurine, or a single flower into something intentional.

The carving on each panel reflects the regional woodcarving traditions of Nepal and northern India, where skilled craftsmen worked teak and other hardwoods into architectural elements for homes, temples, and shrines. The motifs vary from piece to piece: florals, geometric borders, temple-like arched niches with decorative columns. Each one is different because each one was made by hand, for a specific home, by a specific maker.

Authentic antique panels like these are increasingly hard to find. Factory-made imitations are now widely available in local markets, but the ones we carry are genuine: old wood, old hands, early 20th century.

They make for an exceptional and unusual gift, whether for a housewarming, a hostess, Mother’s Day, or anyone who appreciates objects with a genuine history. Use the alcove to display a small figurine, a crystal, a sprig of dried flowers, or simply leave it as the wall accent it already is.

Measurements are approximate as each piece is unique.

Does not include mounting hardware.
